Are we on the verge of the next Russian Revolution?
There is an interesting situation developing, or rather the situation is escalating to the next stage. IMHO Russia is on the verge of a military coup.
Honestly, we’ve been in this situation now for months, as Prigozhin started low key and non specific complaints of not getting support from Russian Regular Forces in the hot spot meat grinder battles. Military leadership Shoigu and staff shrugged off the thousands of lost Wagner lives insisting that enough supplies and munitions were going to the mercenaries and shortages were unavoidable.
Prigozhin escalated complaints, naming generals on the Russian military as intentionally short shrifting Wagner, attempting to eliminate the independent militia as a threat.
This week we have the strongest public statement yet from Prigozhin, stopping just short of declaring revolution and calling for a popular uprising against the Putin regime. This was following what appears to be a deliberate attack by Russian regular forces on a division of Wagner troops and massacring them.
I can’t say I feel too sorry for the Wagner group, they’re not a nice group as those in Eritrea can attest to. But when the rats start turning on each other, revolution is not far behind.
Case in point — Wagner has assumed control of Rostov-on-Don, with some reports indicating that the Russian soldiers received and welcomed Wagner with open arms. Wagner is now marching north towards Moscow, with fighting in each city on the way but most telling is that the military has started bringing tanks, troops and munitions into and on the streets of Moscow.
It becomes very difficult for state controlled media to spin these actions into a story of Putin’s strength and control. People will start to take the underground news with more credibility than the traditional media. Once they lose faith in the control of the Duma, the many revolutionary groups that had been operating in secret will start to be a lot more deliberate and visible — provoking more public protests and open arson of military installations…
If I were one of Putin’s military leadership and/or on the general council — I would be very worried about my life. If Putin doesn’t kill them under pretence of Treason, the revolutionaries will.
Remember Ceausescu being deposed in Romania. There was no restraint in punishing the autocrats…
